Michigan’s Oldest Continuous Running Triathlon • Part of Michigan’s Grand Prix Series “2004”

24th Annual Memorial Triathlon & Duathlon
and Mark Mellon Memorial Short Course Triathlon (SCT)

Saturday, August 7, 2004 • Otsego Lake County Park • Gaylord, MI

The Mark Mellon Triathlon was initiated by Dennis and Judy Mellon as a loving tribute to their late son Mark, tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. A budding young athlete, Mark was only 16 at the time.
The Mark Mellon Triathlon is one of three events hosted.

Race Information:

Approved helmet must be worn in all bike races.

TRIATHLON
.6 Mile Swim • 31 Mile Bike • 6.2 Mile Run

Now the oldest triathlon in Michigan, the MMMT has been rated one of the top triathlons in the Great Lakes area for the past several years.

The race is USA Triathlon sanctioned and the Triathlete must have a 2004 USA Triathlon Annual License or a Single Event Permit.

Wet suits are permissible if water temperature is under 78º Expected water temperature - low 70’s. Expected air temperature is 75º to 80º

Picnic, camping, swimming, and bathroom with shower are available at the Otsego County Park. Reservations for camping are required. Race is limited to 400 applicants - please get your application in early.

DUATHLON
5K Run • 50K Bike • 5K Run

The 24th annual MMMT in the year 2004 will offer the 4th Annual MMMD. The race is USA Triathlon sanctioned.
All awards and age groups are the same as the MMMT.

SHORT COURSE (SCT)
200 yd. Swim • 12 Mile Bike • 3 Mile Run

This short Triathlon consists of a 200 yd. swim, 12 mile bike, and a 3 mile run. Open to anyone over the age of 12 (by or on race date). Overall age group awards will be given. Wet suits or life jackets may be worn. Fluid and refreshments after the race - all proceeds are returned to Gaylord St. Mary’s Athletic Association and Otsego County Parks & Recreation.

The events begin and end at the Otsego County Park located on West Otsego Lake Drive approximately 4 miles south of Gaylord off Old Hwy. 27.

First-third overall prizes will be given to Mark Mellon Triathlon racers in the following age categories:

Duathlon - MMMT (Men & Women) and SCT
12-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-plus

Show your 2004 U.S.A. Triathlon Card @ Pick-Up.

* If you don’t have a card, you will have to purchase a Single Event Permit.
* No USA Triathlon Single Event permit Needed for SCT

5-8 pm Pre-race packet pickup at: Otsego County Community Center, 315 S. Center Street (last stoplight on East Main - turn south, go 3 blocks to large stone building)

Saturday, Aug 7th At Otsego Lake County Park:
NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION
7 am Late Race Packet Pickup
8:30 am Race Instruction at Swim Start Area Mark Mellon Triathlon and Duathlon & SCT Instruction
8:45 am Races Begin
NOON Triathlon and Duathlon & SCT Awards (Approximately 80)
12:30 pm Lunch (All proceeds are returned to Gaylord St. Mary’s Athletic Association and Otsego County Parks and Recreation.)
